Beer Release: Four Seasons Winter Warmer Trades Oak for Flavor

Happy Holidays! We are closing out the final days of 2024 with a release from our highly lauded Four Seasons series. Named after the season’s corresponding solstice, Winter ’24 is a seasonal winter warmer beer with notes of toffee, macadamia nuts, maple, and honey, and comes in at a whopping 12.8%. Surprisingly, it strays from the series’ past vintages by omitting the barrel-aging process and opting to double down on the adjunct ingredients. Our Director of Brewing Operations, Chris Baker explains the rationale:

“Four Seasons, as a program, is very expensive to produce. It doesn’t benefit from the same economies of scale as other specialty beers, mainly because of its limited distribution. On top of that, the barrel aging process is much more manual than a non-barrel-aged brew and the adjunct ingredients can be expensive. Once you compound all that it can be very challenging to choose ingredients that do the series justice when you are hamstrung by excessive cost of goods, so we decided to allocate more dollars to the flavors rather than the oak.”

He also describes the beer as an amber hued, high-ABV, Strong Ale with a robust grain bill of various caramel malts, Victory, Honey malt, and oats that create a sturdy backbone to stand up the hefty ABV which ensures the beer stays silky rather than hot. The overall impression

is a quaffable winter ale that is best enjoyed slightly warmed and sipped out of a snifter or tulip.
