It's that time of year again! We just released our annual fresh hop beer this week, aptly named for its key ingredient, fresh hops, and features a recently rebranded experimental varietal known to most as HBC-586, now coined Krush. Our proximity to hop farms is largely responsible for the style we've termed, “a farm-to-kettle IPA”, and boasts a transit time of just several hours from the grower to the brewery.

“Originally we were slated to use Talus, but after visiting the grower to check on the harvest we determined that it just wasn’t coming along the way we hoped. We were displeased with the quality so we pivoted and decided on Krush. The key aroma profiles of the hop are orange, berry, peach, and mango, so needless to say [hop] varietal that plays right into the IPA style and we couldn’t be happier with the result.”

-Chris Baker, Director of Brewing Ops – Mother Earth Brew Co.

Using Krush puts the beer somewhat late in the fresh hop release calendar, with many breweries opting for an earlier varietal like Strata, which has been popular for the last few years, but we are confident that bringing a late-harvest beer to the table will give consumers something unique to look forward to and also extend the fresh hop beer season.

This "farm-to-kettle" approach for the Fresh Hop IPA is fascinating, highlighting how ingredient quality directly shapes a masterpiece. It reminds me of strategic resource management in games like PokéPath TD, where selecting the right units—or in this case, hops—is crucial for defending your path and achieving a unique, satisfying result.
