Fresh hop season is here, and we’re celebrating with two new releases from Mother Earth Brew Co. Fresh as It Gets Fresh Hop IPA returns with freshly harvested Mosaic hops, while Soul Window Hazy IPA brings a new installment to our experimental Project X Series, pairing a layered hop bill with eye-catching artwork.

These beers represent two different sides of what we do: capturing the fleeting character of the annual hop harvest and exploring new ideas through experimental brewing and creative collaboration.

What Is Fresh Hop Beer?

Fresh hop beer is all about timing. Most IPAs are brewed with hops that have been dried and processed after harvest. Fresh hop beers take a different approach, using hops soon after they’re picked to capture their character at a unique point in the harvest season.

From the fields to the brewhouse, the process moves quickly. Once hops are harvested, they begin changing as they lose moisture and their delicate aromatic compounds evolve. Getting freshly picked hops to the kettle promptly is an important part of making a fresh hop beer.

It’s a limited seasonal window that gives brewers the opportunity to work with hops in a different way. For craft beer fans, that makes fresh hop releases something to look forward to every year.

Fresh as It Gets: From Farm to Kettle

Fresh as It Gets is our annual celebration of the hop harvest. This year’s release features freshly harvested Mosaic hops, bringing a new seasonal expression to a recipe with a history of its own.

The process starts with the harvest. Once the hops are ready, they’re picked and transported for brewing, where they can be incorporated while still fresh. Unlike conventional hop products, fresh hops contain significant moisture, so brewers have to account for that difference when using them in the brewhouse. The goal is to make the most of the hops’ fresh character while building a balanced, expressive IPA.

This year, we’re putting Mosaic in the spotlight. Known for its versatility and distinctive aromatic profile, Mosaic has become a favorite among brewers and IPA fans. Using it fresh gives us a chance to explore the variety through the lens of the harvest.

The underlying Fresh as It Gets recipe has earned recognition at the Great American Beer Festival (GABF). For this release, we’re bringing that established foundation together with freshly harvested Mosaic hops for a seasonal take on a familiar favorite.

The can artwork reflects that connection to the harvest, with a vibrant green palette, hop-inspired illustrations, and a design that puts the fresh ingredients front and center. It’s a fitting look for a beer built around the journey from farm to kettle.

Soul Window: A Hazy IPA From Our Project X Series

Project X is where we make room to experiment. The series gives us the freedom to explore different hop combinations, try new approaches, and create beers that stand apart from our regular lineup.

Soul Window Hazy IPA is the latest release, featuring Strata, Strata CGX, Krush, Citra, and Simcoe Cryo. This combination brings together five hop components, giving us plenty of ways to explore the interplay of different varieties in a hazy IPA.

Soul Window also stands out visually. Its artwork features a large, surreal eye at the center of a vivid composition, surrounded by layered linework, saturated pinks and reds, golden-yellow accents, and abstract architectural forms. The style feels psychedelic and illustrative, blending the look of vintage poster art with a more contemporary, alternative edge.

The eye motif gives the design its name and focal point, while the contrasting colors and dense details make the can feel more like a piece of art than a conventional beer label. It’s an expressive departure from the fresh, botanical look of Fresh as It Gets, reflecting the more experimental spirit of Project X.

The artwork brings another dimension to the release, pairing a complex hop bill with a visual identity that invites a closer look. Soul Window is a hazy IPA for fans who enjoy exploring new hop combinations and discovering what’s next in craft beer.

Fresh as It Gets and Soul Window may both be IPAs, but they represent different parts of our brewing philosophy. Fresh as It Gets is tied to a specific moment in the growing season, celebrating freshly harvested Mosaic hops and the work that brings them from the field to the kettle. Soul Window takes a more exploratory approach, combining five hop components with distinctive artwork for another installment in our Project X Series.
